We are all told that we should do our bit for the planet – be it turning off lights, driving less or opting out of fast-fashion. But saving the planet doesn’t need to cost the earth and DOME Energy has some tips to help your finances.
Tip #1
Consider the lifecycle costs of your purchases. Maybe spend a bit more on a heat pump tumble dryer now instead of the cheaper conventional type. The extra couple of hundred pounds will be earned back in no time.
Tip #2
It’s May now, so you should have your heating off. Even having it on for an hour a day is costing you. So, switch off your heating and put on a jumper when you jump out of bed – you won’t notice the difference (except in your wallet.
Tip #3
Not only are SUVs more expensive, their fuel efficiency is much worse than their conventional alternative. The higher frame is much less aerodynamic and that is just costing you money. So, when shopping for your next car, get something that burns less petrol, because that means it burns less of your money.
Tip #4
Shop locally sourced seasonal foods when available. I’m lucky to live in the berry belt of Scotland, so I’ve got an abundance of locally produced berries to choose from at this time of year. Strawberries for example are delicious, but if you want to eat them you’ll have to wait until they are rips. And the flown in ones from Spain, South Africa or Chile just don’t taste as good, they cost more and their imbedded carbon is huge.
That’s all. Let me know what you think.
